Kevin Ball Biography

Kevin Ball enjoyed a long football career at Sunderland AFC.  He began in central defence but was converted in his later career into a central midfielder, playing 389 games for the club in all, scoring 27 goals. He played in Sunderland’s 1992 FA Cup Final. Kevin took on the role of Sunderland’s caretaker manager for part of 2005-2006 season. Kevin also had spells with Portsmouth and, after leaving Sunderland, Fulham and Burnley. Kevin now the Assistant Academy Manager at Sunderland AFC.

The Hall of Fame award is being given to Kevin to recognise his support for the campaign both as a player and as the current youth team boss.

Craig Bankhead, Community Education Manager at Show Racism the Red Card, said:

“Kevin has done a lot to promote the campaign and has attended lots of events over the years. Inducting him into our Hall of Fame is the least we could do as he’s a great role model for young people.”

Kevin entered the Hall of Fame in December 2009 at a ceremony at the Stadium of Light
